BUSTED: FULANI HERDSMEN DISOWN BUHARI SHIFT SUPPORT TO ATIKU

A storm is brewing in one of President Buhari’s biggest stronghold as it has recently been revealed that the group who had previously endorsed him for a second term in office now have some form of division in its rank and with some members looking to pledge their support to the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2019 presidential elections.

The association of cattle breeders, Miyetti Allah, known to many Nigerians as Fulani Herdsmen had earlier declared support for President Buhari’s bid to seek a second term in office, they went as far as to promise the president 20 million votes.

“We appreciate government’s programmes aimed at transforming the social lives of Nigerians through empowerments, agricultural development particularly the livestock sub-sector where pilot programmes of developing water and pasture in long-neglected grazing reserves have commenced.

“We represent over 20 million members across the country, here in attendance we have over 2000 people who have come from all corners of the country; We have representatives from each local governments, and you heard their views; They have declared their interest in President Muhammadu Buhari. This is the decision of the majority, we as leaders, don’t have any option than to follow,” the group had said in a statement in late 2018.

However, in just a few short months, things seem to have changed after another group faults the endorsement stressing that it was done without adequate consultation. It stated that its members should vote for any of the candidates has both top candidates are Fulani.

“We urge our members to disregard the endorsement and elect any candidate of their choice as guaranteed by the constitution. President Muhammadu Buhari and Atiku Abubakar are both Fulani and we urge our members to elect whoever shows concerns for pastorals’ plight and their economic development,” a statement by the group reads.

Some members of the group have also stated that they would support the presidential candidate of the PDP, though this was not included in the official statement.

Still on the matter of endorsement and election, the national chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Chief Olu Falae has stated that him and his party are desperate not to have Buhari gain a second term in office stressing that it was what is good for both Nigeria and President Buhari, insisting that the president has no clue what is happening in his administration.

The SDP chairman whose party currently is in the middle of a major quagmire as it regards it, presidential candidate, tacitly gave his endorsement to the candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar stressing that both of them are after the same thing.

“We have to find ways to do it, this government must not come back, for the sake of all of us, even for the sake of the man himself.

“He does not have the clue of what is going on again. I don’t think he is well; he should just go home and rest. Some characters are hiding behind him to do evil. I wish Atiku well. We are on the same page; we are aiming for the same result. No one wants this government to come back because the government has failed.

“Things that have not been happening before are now happening in the country. Herdsmen now kidnap people as eagles pick chickens in Yorubaland. You have to talk to your (PDP) leaders, in the field; we must cooperate so that we get the right result. All hands must be on deck by to ensure that President Muhammadu Buhari does not come back for the second term,” Falae told reporters.
